Situation: Fundamental situation

Today, he will be discussing another type of situation known as fundamental situation. How does professional certification affects your career? Why is it that having something affects the decision you make about other things? What is the basis of your decision making?

Well, understanding fundamental situation will enable you to know how some conditions affect other conditions. What is fundamental situation?

Fundamental situation is a situation in which one condition becomes the basis of decision making or consideration for another condition. This is a situation that serves as the foundation or point of reference for other conditions. That is, other conditions are put in place with reference to the underlying condition.

This situation maybe an established or past situation which determines what could be done in the future. It serves to guide the future conduct of those it affects, hence it has to be put into consideration when deciding what to do or avoid. This situation comes up when a decision to be made is affected by what has been done in the past or established as a standard or code of conduct,  hence this decision has to be made with respect to this condition. Fundamental human right is an example of what brings about a fundamental situation such that you have to consider how what you are about to do will not violate the right of other people. Another example is your certification which could serve as a basis for applying for a particular job. How does this sound to you "a qualified accountant applying for the job of a Medical doctor". What is the basis of his qualification for the job?

This situation enables you to critically evaluate conditions affecting an activity to be done in order to discern the condition that has the greatest impact, value or influence on the activity and be able to properly handle this condition. This condition can affect action to be taken due to its impact. Hence, it may serve as a point of reference for any decision to be made. This follows the rule of fundamentality, a concept proposed by Fatai Kareem, that states that a factor or condition that has the greatest impact, value, benefit, concern or influence over an activity to be done or decision to be made is likely serve as the basis of action to be taken. That is, the condition is likely to be the reason for choosing to do what you do due to its impact, value, benefit, concern or influence.

This situation can occur due to a condition that can not be changed and it has an impact on future conduct or decision. Therefore, there is a need to consider how this condition can affect an activity to be done or a decision to be made in order to minimise the risk of its impact that may hinder achieving the desired outcome.

Case study

1. ABYZ, a well respected company for its quality products, has just received a business proposal from 1234. This business involves huge amount of return. However, 1234 is well known for sub-standard products. ABYZ rejects the offer. What could have made ABYZ to reject the offer? If ABYZ accepts the offer, how can this deal affects its reputation?

2. Six is a man who loves being around his family. He usually makes his decision based on what favours the family. He is given an offer to travel abroad for 3 months without the family; fortune is involved in this journey. What is the condition upon which he is likely to make his decision? What is he likely going to do?
